'Bequeath' under contention

The estate of M P Birla is part of the Birla family estate, and as Priyamvada Birla in her alleged will of 1999 used the word "bequeath", it implied that she had received her property from someone else, which in this case was none other than the late M P Birla, one of the many owners of the properties of the Birla family.

This argument was made by P K Ray , counsel appearing for Yashovardhan Birla, in the court of Justice K J Sengupta on the petition filed by R S Lodha seeking discharge of the caveats filed by K K Birla, G P Birla, B K Birla and Yashovardhan Birla against grant of probate to Lodha.

Ray argued there was no bitterness in the Birla family and Yash was a nominee executor of M P Birla's will of 1982. Therefore, Yash had a caveatable interest in the proceedings.

Former minister in the NDA government, S B Mookherjee, and S N Mookherjee, started their pleading on behalf of K K Birla today.
