This takes the total mobile subscriber base to over 25 million at the end of November against around 23 million last month. At the end of November, Reliance Infocomm was the largest mobile operator with 5.8 million subscribers, which included the 6,00,000 GSM-based cellular subscribers in North East, West Bengal and Bihar.
Public sector company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has taken the number two spot with 5.4 million mobile users.
This includes 8,00,000 WLL limited mobility subscribers, the remaining being GSM-based. BSNL has added 2,50,000 new cellular subscribers in November. Bharti Cellular, with 51 million users, has dropped to the number three spot. Reliance had overtaken Bharti last month itself.
Bharti was the number one cellular operator until a few months back. Aggressive pricing by WLL operators have weaned away a large chunk of the new users to the Reliance fold.
