Kerala industries minister Elamaram Kareem would distribute allotment letters to 12 enterprises under the small and medium industries category on February 25 at the Valiya Velicham Industrial Growth Centre in Kannur district.

The minister would also lay the foundation stone for the 1,00,000 sft standard design factory for apparel. The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has developed 251 acres of land to set up the growth centre.

A 50 acres industrial park exclusively dedicated for small scale units has also been developed inside the centre. Plots of 25/50 cents and 1 acre would be allotted to non polluting units across all sectors.

KSIDC has already provided basic infrastructure, including 2 km of developed internal roads, an 11 KV line for power and an effluent treatment plant. An administrative block of 1,600 sqm and a multi-storied standard designs factory of 10,000 sqm are already functioning in this growth centre.

Other units operating include Rubco Hawai Chappals, Rubco Cycle Tyres & Tubes, NKB Oil Mills, Standard Fibers & Allied Products, Maryan Apparel and Apparel Training & Designing Centre. These units together have generated employment for around 1,500 people. KSIDC envisages a full fledged apparel park in the centre on 40 acres.
