2-wheelers post unimpressive growth in Feb

February proved to be a cold month for the two and three-wheeler sales as major players such as Hero Honda and TVS Motors posted unimpressive growth figures for the month.
 
Bajaj Auto was the only exception to the trend, posting a growth of 24.8 per cent in its total two-wheeler sales in February 2005.
 
Market leader Hero Honda managed to cross the two-lakh mark again but recorded only a 9.3 per cent growth in its sales at 2,23,546 units compared with 2,04,555 units sold in the same month of the previous year.
 
In January, 2005 the sales grew 17.5 per cent. Hero Honda's cumulative sales for the period April, 2004 to February, 2005 grew by 27 per cent.
 
TVS Motors' sales dipped marginally from 96,638 units in February, 2004, to 96,020 units in February, 2005.
 
Total motorcycle sales too registered a fall from 59,516 units in February, 2004, to 57,009 units in February, 2005.
 
However, a release from the company said that during the same period the four-stroke motorcycles recorded a growth of 23 per cent.
 
The scooterette sales inched up marginal with a sales of 15,900 units in February 2005 compared with 14,188 units sold last year. Moped sales stood at 23,111 units in February 2005 compared with 22,934 units in the same period last year.
 
The cumulative sales of Bajaj Auto, which outperformed the market leader in February, grew from 1,26,678 units in February, 2004 to 1,58,129 units in February 2005.
 
Bajaj's total motorcycle sales grew 53.7 per cent to 1,29,409 units, while the total scooter sales fell nearly 55 per cent to 10,164 units compared with 22,388 units February, 2004. Exports during the month were u p 38.8 per cent at 19,204 units.
 
The sales figures for other two-wheeler companies were not available.
