The newly-launched Maruti Swift has caught the imagination of Hyderabadis with 300 out of the 400 bookings for the trendy compact car in Andhra Pradesh so far coming only from the city.

Disclosing these initial figures to cite the response that the new car has been receiving across the country, Kinji Saito, director(marketing and sales) of Maruti Udyog Limited, said that the new product has no direct competition whatsoever from any other company at its range.

According to him, Swift is expected to enhance the brand image of Maruti more than what it adds to the company's profits. Saito refused to give any projections in terms of sale of total units and so on.

"It won't be a very big number as its price is on the higher side compared to other cars in the compact segment," he said at the local launch of the new model.

Saito said that investment of over Rs250 crore by the company and another Rs 190 crore by the vendors went into bringing out 'Swift'.
