ABG Cement scales up Kutch plant capacity

ABG Cement Limited has scaled up the capacity of its cement plant in Kutch, Gujarat, from the present 4,500 tonne clinker a day to nearly 10,000 tonne a day.

It is also in advanced stages of acquiring 350 hectares of land for its new plant, which will have a cement manufacturing capacity of 5 million tonne a day.

The company has lined up Rs 1,750-crore investments for its project, which includes a captive power plant, desalination plant and a jetty. The capacities of all these units would be adequate to support the plant, say company sources.

Company officials told Business Standard that ABG was negotiating with a number of companies including F l Smith (Denmark), Polysius, Noieshe and Humboldt (West Germany) and L&T for its plant machinery.

"On commissioning of our first unit, we propose to double our cement manufacturing capacity quickly. The other locational advantage of our project is the availability of adequate quantity of lignite, the fuel used for firing the kiln, within the radius of few kilometres," said a company source.

A senior official, however, denied any plans of ABG foraying into the capital market.
