Purkayastha, while addressing the employees, said that the company had a good year in FY16, registering 10% revenue growth, despite the West Bengal government's decision not to advertise with the ABP Group's publications and channels.
He mentioned that the government owes the group close to Rs 20 crore, a matter which is under judicial process currently.
The MD and CEO went on to say that the group sees digital as a growth area, with the new medium contributing around 1% of the total revenues.
"He added that the goal is to drive this up to 4-5% over the next two year," says a person present at the town hall meeting.
Employees of the ABP Group on Wednesday evening were informed that Aveek Sarkar would be stepping down, and his brother Arup Sarkar will take over the mantle of editor-in-chief, while the former will continue in the capacity of vice-chairman and editor emeritus. Aveek will also oversee the digital properties of the group and support news operations within the group. Until now, Arup was in charge of the group's Bengali magazines.
The ABP Group owns and operates publications (newspapers and magazines) and TV news channels. The company's magazines include - Anandmela, Unish Kuri, Sananda, Anadalok, Desh, Fortune India, and The Telegraph in Schools. The newspaper portfolio includes The Telegraph, Anandbazaar Patrika and Ebela while the television channel bouquet includes ABP News, ABP Ananda and ABP Majha.
