Anil Ambani group mulls foray into solar energy.
Renewable sources of energy seem to be high on the agenda for the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).
While the company is exploring to foray into solar energy (both photovoltaic and thermal), it is in an advanced stage of talks with the Gujarat government for setting up 200- mw wind power projects in Kutch and Jamnagar districts for an estimated investment of Rs 1,200 crore.
Sources in the company said that they are waiting for government's policy on solar energy. The company is exploring various locations in Gujarat to set up a photo-voltaic cells unit.
Besides ADAG, Tata Power is aiming to wind farm projects to generate about 800 MW of power in Gujarat. This would well make Tata Power a leader in wind energy generation in India.
Meanwhile, Tata Power is also working on a proposal to set up a photo-voltaic cell unit in Kutch to generate 200 MW of power for an estimtated cost of Rs 3,000-4,000 crore, said sources close to the development.

Earlier, Mukesh Ambani controlled Reliance Industries had announced plans to invest Rs 20,000 crore for a photo-voltaic cells unit at it upcoming SEZ in Jamnagar.
In the next three years, ADAG has chalked out plans for setting up windfarms to generate 500 MW of power for an estimated investment of Rs 3,000 crore. In Gujarat, Reliance Wind Energy is aiming to set up 200 MW wind power projects in Kutch and Jamnagar district, according to government sources.
ADAG has been evaluating options to venture into the power equipment business also. The group has been in talks with four, five global companies for a strategic partenership.
ADAG is also exploring other states like Rajasthan and Karnataka. In Maharashtra Reliance Wind Energy, a subsidiary Reliance Energy has already signed agreement with Suzlon Energy for 150 MW project. ADAG has earlier bought 25% equity in Southern Wind Farms (SWFL) for about Rs 250 crore.
