Aditya Birla Retail Ltd, the retail arm of the over $28-billion Aditya Birla Group, is in the process of opening six hypermarket format stores — more. Megastores — across the country during the current financial year, according to CEO (hypermarkets division) Russell Berman.
The group is set to launch its third hypermarket in Bangalore this week.
A third store will be coming up in New Delhi in due course, each with an investment of between Rs 12 crore and Rs 15 crore,” he said.
Inaugurating its second hypermarket in Hyderabad on Thursday, completing a total of 12 hypermarket launches in the country, Berman said the company was working on a couple of more hypermarkets in Hyderabad, which should open either by the end of this financial year or in the beginning of next year.
The focus of the new hypermarket in Hyderabad, sprawling over 55,000 sq ft, is around ‘fresh’ and around ‘everyday low prices’, he said, adding that the company expected its hypermarket format stores to reach a break even point in 12 months to 24 months.
