BS Reporter

Air India commissioned an automated crew management system which records pilot flying hours, rest period, availability and thereby reducing the chance of manipulation. The new system has been in place from Friday and costs a few hundred crores, according to airline sources.

At present records related to crew scheduling, availability, rest period and hours flown are prepared manually and then fed into computers. The new system will provide for an automated solution and will enable the operations department to check the flying records and availability of pilots on a click of a button and system will determine and generate lists of pilots who can be rostered for duty.

‘Ready to set aside demands if recognition is restored’
The Indian Pilots Guild, leading the Air India pilots' strike, on Saturday said it was ready to set aside all demands to end the strike if the government restored recognition to the union.
