After waiting for about five months since its independent airline MRO in Hosur became operational in November last year, Air Works has announced bagging Kingfisher as the company’s first customer. With this, Air Works has become the first Indian MRO to do third-party airline maintenance.

As per the agreement with Kingfisher, Air Works will provide maintenance for Kingfisher’s ATR 72 aircrafts. Fredrik Groth, CEO, Air Works said, “Our partnership with Kingfisher comes at a right time when we are promoting India as a future hub of MRO operations. In this scenario, our partnership symbolises a shift in the perception of domestic airlines to join hands with Indian MROs.”

Air Works which earlier raised about $25 million through external investment has invested close to $5 million its Hosur facility. Other than airline MRO, Air Works also provides general aviation MRO service for helicopters, private jets and smaller aircrafts.

Air Works, which has got DGCA approval for independent airline MRO, is expecting to receive approval for Boeing 737 heavy maintenance. Air Works Airline MRO has also completed the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval requirements and is awaiting audit of the facility by May 2009.
