AirAsia now looking to hire Indian pilots

It had held interviews for recruiting cabin crew staff in Chennai recently

After recieving overwhelming response for its cabin crew recruitment, AirAsia India is now searching for captains and co-pilots.

The Airline has said it is looking for India-based captains and first officers.

It may be noted that the low cost airline, which joined hands with Tata Group, is expected to take off in the Indian skies in September this year.

According to AirAsia's website, it is looking for first officers and captains. The website says India-based captains should be in the age of 20 to 60 years, must hold a valid Indian ATPL with an unrestricted class and must be Indian citizens.
 

A320 type would be advantageous, with a minimum of 5,000 hours total flying time and a minimum of 1,500 hours total P1 flying time on MPA or MPJ/EFIS/FMS, it added.

For first officer, the airline stated the candidates must be Indian citizens and must hold a valid Indian CPL/IR with an unrestricted class and a minimum of 200 hours total flying time.

The announcement comes after it got overwhelming response for its cabin crew recruitment, which was held in Chennai on Saturday and Sunday. During the first day interview around 3,500 candidates appeared, of which 200 were selected for the second round, said officials from the airline, which is planning to recruit 100 cabin crew staff for its Indian operations to start with.

Bo Lingam, chief operating officer, AirAsia said that "the way things are going, looks like in September we will be launching our operations, provided we get all the regulatory approvals".

Lingam was leading a 14-member team, which was in Chennai to hire candidates, which is the biggest in the history of AirAsia.

It may be noted, AirAsia is the first overseas airline to form a JV, along with the Tata Group, after FDI was opened in the aviation industry by the government. AirAsia will have a 49% stake in the carrier while Tata Group will hold 30%. The remainder will be held by entrepreneur Arun Bhatia's Telstra Tradeplace.
