At a time when leading telecom service providers are withdrawing freebies to effectively increase voice call rates, Aircel today decided to make roaming free across voice, SMS and data services for about 6.7 crore mobile users on its network.
Moreover, custonmers will not have to pay anything for incoming calls while on roaming, the company said in a statement today.
Aircel subscribers would now get one rate for voice, SMS and data in home circles and on roaming on its own network, the company said in a statement, today.
“This product will enable Aircel customers to enjoy one rate for voice, SMS and data services in their respective home circles and even while they are on roaming,” Aircel Chief Marketing Officer Anupam Vasudev said in the statement.
Aircel subscribers in Delhi telecom circle will be able to avail the service for Rs 39, while Mumbai subscribers have to pay Rs 32, according to the statement. It would follow the one paisa per second tariff across India.
SMS will be charged at Re 1 for home circle as well as on roaming while data users will be able to carry the home circle rate on roaming, the statement added.
Such plans, said Hemant Joshi, Partner, Deloitte Haskins & Sells, if introduced with sizable upfront monthly fees generally result in good amount of average revenue per user (ARPU) and also increases the usage per month on the network which actually turn out to be positive for the operator. “If other operators see users aggressively opting for such plans then large operators might also move to similar but slightly modified plans,” he added.
