Airtel, which launched its services in Gujarat on Monday, prefers to target new subscribers, rather than poaching into the territory of Celforce and Idea, which have a combined subscriber base of more than 5.5 lakh.

Bharti Cellular, which owns the Airtel brand, has decided to spend more than Rs 100 crore for television advertisements to market its products on an all-India basis and company sources said that a major portion of this amount will be used for luring Gujarat customers.

With an aggressive marketing strategy having stress on the pre-paid segment, Airtel officials believe that the Gujarat cellular market is going to double itself in an year and the company will grab a major share of the market.

Airtel officials also cites the instances of Mumbai, where the company has recently entered as the fourth player, but been able to generate an impressive number of subscribers within a short time.
