Leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel today said it aimed to be the top 3G mobile service provider in Odisha in the next three to four months.

Airtel has been offering 3G services to its Odisha customers through network sharing with rival Aircel. Today, it announced the launch of its own 3G network christened 'Platinum 3G'.

"From today, Airtel Platinum 3G network would be available in 27 towns across the state. In the next three to four months, we would be the largest 3G operator in Odisha", said Ravindra Singh Negi, chief executive officer (West Bengal & Odisha), Bharti Airtel Ltd.

Airtel claimed it has the largest foot print in Odisha in terms of 5003 BTS or base transceiver stations. BTS is a piece of equipment that facilitates wireless communication between user equipment (UE) like mobile phones, WLL phones or computers with wireless internet connectivity and a network. The telecom operator said it covered 83 per cent of the state's population with 9.2 million subscribers.

"As a leader in the telecommunication space, it is our endeavor at Airtel to consistently innovate and make investments that help us move closer to our vision of delivering a seamless network experience to our customers. The launch of Platinum 3G is an integral part of this commitment and will deliver enhanced voice as well as data connectivity. We now invite data savvy customers in Odisha to enjoy Airtel Platinum 3G and experience our world class smartphone network", said Negi.

Earlier in July 2015, Airtel had introduced 4G services in Odisha. With Airtel 4G and Platinum 3G both available in the circle now, Airtel is uniquely positioned to become the only network in Odisha to leverage these world class technologies towards delivering the ultimate smartphone experience for its customers, a release said.
