Airtel, Indiagames offer broadband games

Airtel Broadband & Telephone has tied up with Indiagames for offering online gaming to its broadband customers at a price of Rs 199 per month.

Through the tie up the company will bring its 'Games on Demand Service' to broadband customers, Akshay Kumar, chief marketing officer of Airtel, said after the launch of the service. The portal was launched by batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

More than 50 games are currently available for Airtel broadband users, which would be increased to 300 by 2007, Kumar said.

Users would be able to choose from a variety of single player and multiplayer games, which include titles such as Age of Umpires, Star Fury, Driv3R and Flight Simulator among others.

"The gaming market in India in 2004 stood at $25.4 billion and is estimated to reach $ 54.6 billion this year," Kumar said.

The number of broadband users in the country is expected to increase 15 times by 2010...India currently has about 7 million internet subscribers, Kumar said.
