Airtel, the leading telecom operator in the country today announced validity-free internet packs for Mumbai and Delhi pre-paid consumers and said such feature will be available for its all India consumers starting December 29.

As per the announcement, Mumbai and Delhi consumers can now access 30 megabyte (MB) to 110 MB data on buying Rs 22 to Rs 74 packs. There would be no fixed validity period to consume the data unlike current packs, which come with validity packs starting with one day to one month.

Similar validity-free internet plans would be introduced in different circles starting December 29, Airtel said. The consumers can access internet over 2G, 3G or 4G network after buying such packs, although the rates of such packs might vary from circle to circle.

Pre-paid users constitute more than 90 per cent of total consumer base of nearly all telecom service providers and they tend to use small ticket size internet plans to browse the mobile internet.

The validity-free internet plan by Airtel indicates shift in mobile internet pricing strategy of telecom firms as the competition will be fierce after the launch of Reliance Jio. Idea Cellular, the third largest telecom player on Wednesday launched 4G services across 75 small towns in south India, primarily targeting new and young users.
