Bharti Airtel, announced the launch of Airtel Platinum 3G in Kolkata. The services launched in the 900 Mhz spectrum will offer better services for consumers.
“With the launch of Platinum 3G, Airtel customers of Kolkata can browse the Internet 122 per cent faster than any other 3G network, get 36% better indoor coverage and enjoy extended battery life. Additionally, users can stream videos 144 % faster than the existing speed. Customers need not to pay extra to avail this superior connectivity and can enjoy Platinum 3G at the existing 3G tariffs.”," said Ravindra Singh Negi, CEO of the company's West Bengal and Orissa operations.
Reliance Jio has already launched wi-fi service in parts of the city and had earlier announced that it was in process of making Kolkata first wi-fi city of the county. Data is turning out to be major focus for the telecom companies. Negi declining to give financial numbers except saying half of incremental revenue was from data services.
Negi said the company may use 3G or 4G network to fire the wi-fi service or in a combination of both depending on the situation. The new 3G is only for Kolkata and not Rest of West Bengal circle. Airtel had earlier launched 3G services on the 900 Mhz band in Mumbai.
