Airtel launches 8 Mbps broadband web-access

 Bindal said that Bharti Airtel had earmarked $1 billion for development of non-mobile services. "Of this, around 25-35% is spent on developing broadband services," he said.

Airtel already has a carrier ethernet network (CEN) operational in Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai with plans to upgrade Mumbai to a CEN soon. According to a release, CEN allows provisioning of higher speed plans as well as delivery of triple play (voice, data, broadband) services for IPTV. In the other cities, the network has been upgraded to deliver 4 and 8 Mbps speeds, the release said .
