Airtel launches EDGE services in Chennai

Bharti Cellular Limited has launched its EDGE enabled services and a variant of its pre-paid service called 'Kelunga Pesunga', allowing Airtel customers in Chennai to stay mobile for just Rs 150 a month.

"EDGE will drive enhanced data applications on the mobile phone and will drive convergence in the entertainment and communication space, while the 'Kelunga Pesunga' plan is yet another service designed to suit the needs of the pre-paid customers," said Swaminathan, CEO and director (mobility), south hub, Bharti Cellular Limited, in a press release.

Airtel customers with EDGE will be able to view continuous real-time feeds of channels like Sun TV, Jaya TV, Zoom, CNBC and Aaj Tak at present. Going forward, there will be more channels added. EDGE services also include Airtel's portal Airtel Live, e-mail and mobile office "� a super fast internet access.

The 'Kelunga Pesunga', which is targeted at customers with a low outgoing usage, comes with a start-up kit with a MRP of just Rs 99, a talk time of Rs 10 and a seven-day validity. With this package, the customers will be able to recharge their account for Rs 150 and get a full-month validity and Rs 20 of talk time unlike in the past when customers had to shell out Rs 331 for a 30-day validity.
