Aksh to foray into services business

Aksh is investing close to $37 million in its services business on IPTV and VoIP platforms.

It is also investing close to $8 million to expand its production capacity of optical fibre cable and FRP rods by 20-50 per cent.

According to Kailash Choudhary, managing director of Aksh Optifibre, "We are diversifying to grow and expand our business. We expect about 60 per cent of our turnover to come from services business from next year. Research reveals that total IPTV subscribers may exceed 120 million by 2010 with India and China as the major players. So getting into the services business on this platform makes sense for us."

 

Currently, Aksh has a seven years agreement with MTNL to provide IPTV broadband content services to MTNL subscribers in Delhi and Mumbai.

Aksh provides the content as well as the technology for set-top boxes and software support to MTNL subscribers. Aksh commercially launched the services in Mumbai from April 1 this year.

Currently, Aksh in collaboration with MTNL provides IPTV, and VoIP services for which the subscription figure is above 4000. Aksh provides the convergent services to subscribers at different combo deals of Rs 1000 - single IPTV service, Rs 1460 - dual services, and Rs 499
