Pharmaceuticals major Alembic plans to launch its over-the-counter (OTC) unit by the end of October.

The company has set a turnover target of Rs 25-35 crore from this strategic business unit (SBU) in the first year.

The Rs 500-crore company has already announced plans to increase its presence in the OTC segment through brand acquisitions, prescription-to-OTC switches and new product launches.

The Vadodara-based company, which has recently opened a centralised marketing set-up in Mumbai to operate the SBUs, will shift all its top cough and cold brands and nutraceuticals into this division for marketing, Alembic informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The entire setup, including the appointment of a business head for this SBU, would be ready by the end of the month.
