Alstom-Bharat Forge today said it has bagged a Rs 1,570 crore order for supplying power equipment to state-run NTPC's power plants.

Alstom Bharat Forge Power (ABFPL), the joint venture company between Alstom and Bharat Forge, has secured an order worth over 250 million euro (Rs 1,570 crore) for the supply to NTPC's plant at Solapur in Maharashtra.

The arrangement between Alstom and Bharat Forge involves the setting up of two JV companies – one for manufacturing of steam turbine and generators and the other for manufacturing of all the auxiliaries.

ABFPL had emerged as the lowest bidder in NTPC's bulk tender for supply of 11 units of 660 MW super critical Turbine Generator sets.

As per the tender conditions, ABFPL is also expected to get awarded an additional order for three units of 660 MW for the Nabinagar site from Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGCPL), a JV between NTPC and Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB).

ABFPL’s work involves engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection and commissioning of five of a total of eleven 660 MW supercritical units.

Supercritical plants are higher efficiency plants compared to conventional sub-critical coal fired plants.
