Alstom, Bharat Forge to set up Rs 2400 crore facility in Mundra

Alstom - Bharat Forge to set up a Rs 2400 crore equipment manufacturing facility over 120 acres with capacity to manufacture 5000 MW high efficiency power generation equipments per annum at Mundra SEZ of Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (MPSEZ).

The facility will use the port to transport equipments manufactured at the site. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, Gautam Adani, chairman, Adani Group said, "Mundra has become an attractive destination for power generation and the power generation capacity will exceed 12,000 MW, from present capacity of 8600 MW". Adani also added that investments in Gujarat are growing by leaps and bounds.

 

Mundra SEZ is the largest multi product and first port based SEZ in the country and has a multi model connectivity which include road, private rail line, sea port , air port and cross country pipelines  ;utility infrastructure such as power generation, transmission and distribution, desalination plant.

MPSEZ is in the ultimate phase of development is likely to generate employment for about four lakh persons and likely to attract investment of more than $50 billion, claimed a release.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said at the occasion that he wants to work on policy that will make Gujarat defense equipment hub of India.

“We want to take initiative to come up with favorable policy for defense equipment manufacturing in Gujarat and we are working on it and if we succeed, we will export defense equipment in the global market”, Modi said.

He added that, " I have talked with universities and engineering institute to start courses related to defense equipment manufacturing, and have received positive response from them.”
