In an announcement to BSE, Alstom T&D said that it has been awarded a contract by Essar Projects India LTd worth close to around Rs 80 crore to supply transformers package for Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (NNTPP) in Tamil Nadu.
The 1000 MW greenfield is being developed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation, will be the first lignite-fired 2X500 MW power plant in the country.
Under the scope of contract, Alstom will be engaged in designing, engineering, manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning of a set of generator transformers, interconnecting transformers, station transformers upto 200MVA, 80 MVAR reactor along with other associated equipment. All the equipment will be engineered and manufactured in Alstom's facilities in India.
Rathin Basu, managing director, Alstom T&D India claimed they are the only Indian company to have over four years experience in manufacturing of 765 kV transformers and reactors with localised technology and also supply of more than 200 units of 765 kV transformers and shunt reactors.
Alstom T&D India's green field facility at Vadodara was inaugurated in March 2009. This facility has since ramped up production capabalities to supply transformers and shunt reacors to various clients like power grid, state utilities and private generating companies.
