US e-commerce company Amazon has come forward to set up a warehouse in Hyderabad apart from agreeing to provide an on-line marketing opportunity for the handicrafts made in the state.

Amazon global director and head of real estate and facilities John Schoettler along with a team of officials today met Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao to share their  plans, according a release by the minister’s office.

“Amazon has come forward to set up a warehouse/fulfilment centre in Hyderabad. The company will start their operations from a leased facility in about two months before the own facility is constructed,” it said.

The government and Amazon will hold a joint press meet in the second week of February with full details about this and other initiatives.

The minister assured the company delegation that the government would extend all the incentives to the Amazon facility under the new industrial policy. He requested the company to create an online market place for promoting Telangana handicrafts such as Nirmal handcrafts, Pochampalli sarees and Bidri ware to which the delegation responded positively.

KTR would visit Amazon headquarters in Seattle in the second week of April on the invitation extended by the visiting delegation, it said.
