Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd (GACL) plans to double its production at its cement plant in Himachal Pradesh.

GACL officials said in the next two years the company planned to spend Rs 700 crore in a phased manner at its nearly twenty-year-old cement plant at Darlaghat in Solan district, some 50 km from here.

"We plan to raise the capacity of this plant from 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 4 mtpa," Rajiv Jain, general manager, GACL, said yesterday.

"We also plan to double the headcount at the plant to 2,000. The expansion is likely to start in 2009 and when finished will raise Ambuja's total production in the country to 16.5 mtpa," said Jain.
