Gujarat Ambuja and DS Constructions, among others, are in the run for the proposed cement plant in Himachal Pradesh's Saal Baag region.

Sources in the state industries department say a survey of the proposed plant at Saal Baag in Shimla district had been carried out.

Interested parties have already begun to bid for the plant even though the decision on awarding the project will be taken after the new government takes over at the end of next month.

According to the survey of the proposed plant, 800 million tonnes of Class A limestone reserves are estimated to be present in the Saal Baag region.

The reserves are said to be 90 per cent in government land. Besides, the area is also connected by a broad motorable road.

The only concern is overhead hydel power cables which pass through the region, say officials.

If awarded, the Saal Baag cement plant will be the second cement plant in Shimla district.

A cement plant is already being built by India Cements at Gumma in the Chopal valley.
