Amrutanjan Healthcare Ltd has entered into services segment through a new division, Care, a specialised centre for pain management that offers invasive and non-invasive pain management services. The company, which opened the first centre in Chennai, is planning to open around four centres in second half of current fiscal with an investment of Rs 1 crore per centre.

The division plans to open new centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad, besides expanding presence in Tamil Nadu by setting up centres in Coimbatore and Madurai, after September this year, said Ananth Krishnan, business head for pain management service division, Amrutanjan Health Care Ltd.

It would also set up satellite centres in Chennai, to work as feeder points to the main centre in the city, in the second quarter of current fiscal.

"It is part of Amrutanjan's plan to expand itself as a pain management company. Plans are to expand the centres in a phased manner, starting from south India and spreading towards western, northern and then, to the eastern parts of the country," he said. It would invest around Rs 1 crore in each centre and would tie up with doctors to open centres in selected regions.

The centre would manage acute, chronic and cancer pains through various treatment modalities including spinal cord stimulation, nerve blocks, intravenous therapy, vertebroplasty and physical therapies and minimal invasive surgeries.

Almost 87 per cent of the population in India are addressed through primary and secondary healthcare segment, while only 13 per cent people go to the tertiary care centres. Being present in the primary and secondary segments, the pain management division would address majority of this market, he added.

It is also looking at options to tag on with physiotherapy centres, clinics and chain of primary and secondary healthcare centres to expand its reach.

"Since we are only into pain management services, which is a new model in India, there is an opportunity to work with other treatment centres. It would be a win-win situation for both the parties," said Krishnan.

It may be noted that the company earlier ventured into pain management services through a subsidiary - Osmosys, head ache and pain management centers - in Chennai to mainly address migraine and tension headaches. However, the company is discontinuing the services through Osmosys with launch of the Care division, said another senior executive from Amrutanjan.

"Osmosys was only addressing the migraine and headaches segment. Care has a different strategy to address issues in a comprehensive manner. Osmosys will not be there from now on," said the executive.
