The controversy surrounding the acceptance of BM Vyas' resignation seems to have finally come to an end with the board of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns and markets Amul brand of milk and milk products, unanimously approving the resignation at the meeting held today in Anand.
"The board has unanimously approved resignation of BM Vyas," GCMMF said in an official release. A major controversy had erupted in the wake of GCMMF's chairman Parthi Bhatol accepting Vyas' resingation from the post of managing director of the federation without taking the consent of the board. Some of the directors opposed the unilateral decision of Bhatol on the grounds that it could be approved by the board only.
With a view to take a call on Vyas' resignation a group of GCMMF had called a requisition meeting on 30 June, 2010 to consider Vyas' resignation. Later on this meeting was cancelled on 29 June as majority of board members demanded cancellation of the meeting following political intervention.
However, all the board members unanimously approved the resignation in a meeting held today. In fact, the issue (of Vyas' resignation) was excluded from the agenda of today's meet but later on the matter was included after Valsad District Milk Producers' Union chairman Moghabhai Desai dashed off a letter to Bhatol demanding inclusion of the issue in the agenda of Tuesday's meet. Desai had also threaten to take legal action if GCMMF chairman failed to include issue pertaining to Vyas' resignation in the agenda.
Apart from this, the board members of GCMMF also cleared annual accounts for the year 2009-10. All the agenda, which were pending for approval due to last two non-quorum meetings, were approved by the board.
