The controversy surrounding the resignation tendered by BM Vyas from the post of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) managing director refuses to die down. Just a day ahead of the board meeting of GCMMF, which owns and markets Amul brand of milk and milk products, Valsad District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd has demanded inclusion of the issue pertaining to the resignation by Vyas in the agenda of the board meeting scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 27 July.
In a letter to Parthi Bhatol, chairman, GCMMF, Valsad Union, chairman, Moghabhai Desai has also threaten to take legal action if the issue (unilateral acceptance of Vyas' resignation Parthi Bhatol) is not taken up for the discussion in Tuesday's board meet. Valsad Union or Vasudhara Dairy is one of the 13 member unions associated with GCMMF.
BM Vyas had put his papers on 29 April, 2010. Parthi Bhatol accepted the resignation of Vyas without the consent of 13 member board, which sparked off a controversy as some of the directors challenged Bhatol's move to accept the resignation. It may be mentioned here that Vyas' resignation came at a time, when a group of GCMMF directors were already demanding removal of Bhatol from the chairmanship of the federation.
Irked by Bhatol's move, the board of GCMMF had called a requistion meeting on 30 June, 2010 to consider Vyas' resignation. However, the meeting was cancelled on 29 June as majority of board members demanded cancellation of the meeting following political intervention.
Now, the agenda for the board meeting, called on 27 July to clear annual accounts of GCMMF, does not include the issue of resignation by Vyas, which remains to be unresolved, some board members believe.
“In order to resolve the issue amicably, I demand that the next board meet on Tuesday must include the agenda, for which the requsition meeting was called on 30 June,” Desai stated in his letter.
