Anandiben Patel launches book on Tata Chemicals' 75-year journey

Urges company to spend a part of its CSR towards constructing toilets in Gujarat to make it free of open defecation

Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel on Wednesday launched the book 'Salt of the Earth: The Story of Tata Chemicals' and urged the company to contribute a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards construction of toilets in the state to make it free of open defecation.

"Today, when Tata Chemicals Ltd (TCL) is celebrating its 75th anniversary, I appeal to the company to help in construction of maximum number of toilets in the state under its CSR programme," Patel said in her inaugural address at the book’s launch.

On the occasion, Cyrus Mistry, Chairman, Tata Chemicals, said, “Over the past seven decades, Tata Chemicals faced several challenges and multiple obstacles. These hurdles have strengthened Tata Chemicals, which stands proud as a pioneer in a basic industry, providing solutions to tomorrow’s problems and benefitting millions. The company has evolved to establish its position in a range of business segments."

Meanwhile, when asked about the performance of the NDA government in its first six months, R Mukundan, managing director, TCL told newspersons that the mood of the industry is positive and they are waiting for the upcoming Budget. Suggestions have been given to the government.

"All eyes are on the Budget and budget proposals. Suggestions have been given to the government," Mukundan said.
