Following the approval the Indo-US civil nuclear deal by the US Senate, Andhra Pradesh chief minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, announced plans for setting up a 2000 Mw nuclear power plant in the state.

The state government asked the Generation Corporation of AP (APGenco) to prepare a preliminary report on establishing the nuclear power plant and submit it by next week.
