AP govt plans to build nuclear power plant in state

Following the approval the Indo-US civil nuclear deal by the US Senate, Andhra Pradesh chief minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, announced plans for setting up a 2000 Mw nuclear power plant in the state.
The state government asked the Generation Corporation of AP (APGenco) to prepare a preliminary report on establishing the nuclear power plant and submit it by next week.
According to Reddy, the nuclear plant will boost industrial and agricultural production besides meeting the growing demand for power without affecting the environment.
