The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Aperc) has set aside the state government's order (GO), allowing independent power producers (IPPs) to sell 20 per cent of the power generated by them in the open market.

The commission felt that there was no public interest involved in allowing Vemagiri, Gautami, Konaseema and GVK-II power plants to sell 20 per cent of the power generated in the open market for a period of 15 years.

Aperc chairman Raghothama Rao and members C R Sekhar Reddy and R Radhakishan, after a public hearing on the issue, pronounced that such an amendment to the power purchase agreements signed by the IPPs would be detrimental to the interest of the power distribution companies (Discoms) in the state.
