BS Reporter Mumbai:
Apollo Hospitals will commission three hospitals by the year-end, including its first in Mumbai. This will increase the group's hospital count to 58 in India.

“We are poised for growth and will be adding hospitals in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam. We will also be ramping up some of the existing hospitals. We are focusing on operational efficiencies and aim to increase bed occupancy to 80 per cent in this financial year. Currently, the occupancy ranges between 70 and 80 per cent,” said Preetha Reddy, executive vice-chairperson.
The group operates 55 hospitals, of which 44 are owned and 11 are on management contract. It added eight hospitals in the last two years. The hospitals have around 9,200 beds and 800 more will be added by the end of this financial year. Earlier in the year, the group acquired Nova Speciality Hospitals, including 11 short-stay surgery centres in eight cities. This acquisition also marked the entry of Apollo Hospitals in Mumbai, Jaipur and Kanpur.

The group's first hospital in Mumbai will come up in Navi Mumbai to cater to areas like Panvel, Taloja and Raigad.

It is being built at an investment of Rs 400 crore and will have 500 beds but initially only 150-200 beds will be operational.     bs reporter

The only large hospital group to have a presence in Navi Mumbai is Fortis.

“For us it is a milestone to launch a hospital in Mumbai,” Reddy said and added the company would not have an issue in filling up beds but would face competition in attracting medical staff in Mumbai.
