Apollo plans to set up 250 speciality hospitals

Considering local needs, demographic and morbidity patterns, leading health service provider Apollo Hospitals has chalked out a massive plan to set up 250 speciality hospitals — 'Apollo Reach Hospitals' across rural and semi-urban areas in India in the next seven years at an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.    

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will formally inagurate the project on September 5 at Chennai.    

Each hospital, comprising 100 beds expandable to 200, will come up in one to two acres with a total built up area of about one lakh sq ft, which would have a complete range of diagnostic facilities in radiology and imaging sciences.   

 

The facilities would include CT scanner, X-ray, diagnostic cardiology, neurology, endoscopy systems, comprehensive lab services and blood bank, Apollo Hospital Executive Chairman Dr Prathap C Reddy told reporters here today.    

"During Phase-I of our project, we will be setting up 25 hospitals at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore in the next 24 months", he added.    

The first five hospitals would come up in KarimNagar, Nellore and Chittor in Andhra Pradesh and Karikudi and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, he said.    

Dr Reddy said these hospitals would focus on services including cardiology, cardio thoracic surgeries, neurology, nephrology and orthopedics.    

"There will be about 600 medical professionals,paramedical and other administrative staff in each hospital", he said, adding that each hospital would also provide training to update the skills of the staff.    

He said all the hospitals would be set up within a two km distance from a bus stop or Railway station.     

Dr Reddy also expressed confidence that the whole project would be completed within seven years.    

On the company's revenue through these hospitals, Dr Reddy said each hospital would earn Rs 40 crore in the next three years.
