ArcelorMittal wants its India projects, stuck in securing regulatory approvals, pushed forward to cash in on the demand for steel in the country.
"India continues to have demand for steel, steel plants are running at 100 per cent capacity, imports are there. There is a greater need to push our process, push (through) all the approvals, we are committed but in fact (caught) in the processes," ArcelorMittal CEO and Chairman L N Mittal today said during a media call conference.
The steel major is working on modalities to set up two 12-million tonnes per annum steel mills, one each in Jharkhand and Orissa. The firm is awaiting regulatory approvals from the states concerned for the projects.
Mittal said he was disappointed with the delay in securing such regulatory approvals but committed to the India projects.
"We never gave up our initiative on India. We are continuously working on the India projects," he added.
