Ashok Leyland, the country's second largest commercial vehicle maker, has tied up with the diversified group TVS to launch its pre-owned trucks sold under the brand name Altrux in Tamil Nadu.

This will be the third such arrangement by the Chennai-based company after it opened similar outlets in Rajasthan and Kerala.

The strategy involves an exchange plan, wherein initially only old Ashok Leyland vehicles would be exchanged. The company is aiming to sell 250 such vehicles this year.

Manufacturer certified/branded pre-owned vehicles are late-model used vehicles (usually less than five years old), that are selectively acquired by the manufacturer, put through a fairly rigorous inspection process, and in some cases upgraded, and generally offered with an extended warranty and other perks. They are cheaper than brand new cars but at a premium to used-cars.
