Astra Microwave gets Rs 13.8cr order from space dept arm

Astra Microwave Products Limited, a Hyderabad-based company engaged in the manufacture of microwave components and subsystems for wireless communications used in defence, space and civilian applications, has received a Rs 13.80crore order from Antrix Corporation Limited, a commercial arm of department of space.

The contract envisages supply, installation and commissioning of remote unmanned automatic weather stations in 500 locations across the country. Scheduled to be commissioned by May 2009, the weather stations will feed live data via satellite to the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro)’s central servers on a 24X7 basis.

The order from Antrix, which markets products and services related to space exploration to global customers, follows the Rs 25.5-crore order for automatic weather stations in August 2008 from the Indian meteorological department. With the new order, Astra Microwave’s total order book now stands at Rs 170 crore, according to a press release on Wednesday.
