Auto sales continued on their upward trajectory with truck sales for Ashok Leyland finally taking the baton in January. The company reported a jump of nearly 70 per cent in medium and heavy commercial vehicles sold in January 2010 over the previous month. Bus sales, however, were down 28 per cent sequentially below December 09 numbers but jumped up nearly 40 per cent y-o-y over January 09 sales volumes.
The company is retracing its way to growth from trough levels and total numbers of vehicles sold in January 10 more than tripled y-o-y but year to date volume growth was flat when compared to the same period in the previous year.
Tata Motors, however, saw a flattish growth (2.6 per cent) over the previous month in medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales to 15702, albeit over a much higher base given that it staged an earlier recovery than Ashok Leyland (December 09 sales were 15302 while January 09 sales were under 6000 vehicles).
