With an excise duty cut on cars not above 4,000 mm in length and with engine capacities not over 1,500cc in diesel and 1,200cc in petrol, to 16 per cent from 24 per cent, small car buyers can walk away with reduced prices.
Maruti Udyog announced that they would be reducing the prices of five of their models by anything between Rs 13,000 and Rs 22,000. Hyundai Motor India also will be cutting the price of the Santro by around Rs 20,000-23,000 depending on the variant. Similarly, Tata Motors would be revising the price of the Indica shortly.
