Bajaj Auto Limited has set a target to capture a 35 per cent of Tamil Nadu’s two-wheeler market by the end of 2009.
The company has lined up two new launches in the 135cc segment in the next three months to augment sales. Baja Auto currently has a 20 per cent share in the two-wheeler category.
On Saturday, the company launched its new XCD 135 DTS-Si in Chennai after Delhi and Hyderabad. With this, it expects to increase the sales in the state, which saw an 18 per cent decline this year to 9,000 units per month as compared with 11,000 units per month in 2007-08, said S Manoj Kumar, regional manager (Tamil Nadu), Bajaj Auto.
The company is hopeful that the new range of DTS-Si would augment the sales volume to 14,000 to 15,000 per month from the current 8,500 to 9,000.
Stating that the banks were reluctant to provide two-wheeler loans, he said they were now planning to provide more finance through their subsidiary, Bajaj Auto Finance. “The subsidiary would account for 50 per cent of the company’s total auto finance this year from 27 per cent, and for this we have recruited 47 people who will work with our 42 dealers in the state.”
