Pune-based auto maker, Bajaj Auto Limited, is expecting its newly-launched Discover 125 to help double its motorcycle sales in the mileage segment (100-cc to 125-cc), said K Srinivas, president (motorcycle business).
“We sell approximately 120,000 bikes per month in the mileage segment. Though it will take a bit of time, we will definitely double this,” he said after launching the new Discover 125-cc bike here on Friday.
The company enjoys around 22 per cent share of the 850,000-unit-a-month motorcycle market in India. The sports category is dominated by Pulsar with a market share of over 50 per cent.
Srinivas said the motorcycle industry in India was stagnant and even slightly negative for some years now. The excise duty cut was a good move and would play as a catalyst in the revival process.
Stating that the company has a capacity to manufacture 4.8 million vehicles a year across its plants at Aurangabad, Chakan and Pantnagar, catering to both domestic and export markets, Srinivas said the company had no plans to expand this capacity right now.
