Bajaj Auto, a leading two and three-wheeler manufacturer, has launched its fuel efficient and low emission RE-GDI autorickshaws in this coastal city.

The vehicle incorporates the latest Gasoline Technology - the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine, to achieve substantially lower emissions than even alternative clean fuels like Liquified Petoleum Gas (LPG) and Combusted Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, company Sales and Marketing General Manager Sreeram Venkateshwaran told reporters here last night after the launch.

Designed and developed by the company's R&D, the technology ensured "not only a cleaner environment but also delivers low operating cost to the autorickshaw owners", he said.

The technology delivers a 33 per cent better fuel efficiency than the conventional autorickshaw "which is a boon for the operators in the days of rising fuel prices", Venkateshwaran said.

The cost of the autorickshaw is Rs 1.17 lakh on road.
