Bajaj Auto two-wheeler sales flat in July

Two-wheeler sales of Bajaj Auto, India's second biggest motorcycle maker, were flat in July as it stood at 168,731 units, a drop of 0.72 per cent when compared to 169,971 units sold in the same month a year ago.

Three-wheeler sales reported an increase of 1.5 per cent to 24,104 units during the same month as against 23,733 units sold in the earlier year same month.

Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto said, "The newly  launched Discover DTS-Si has been extremely well received. Almost 10,000 units were sold since launch on July 17 and the plan for August 2009 is to double that . Bajaj plans to thus step up its domestic motorcycle production by  about 25 per cent this month in response to the strong demand for all these brands".

 

Exports, which are included in the above figures as the company does not provide separate numbers for the domestic market, grew by 2 per cent  to 68,585 marking an upward trend.

Stock price of the company on the Bombay Stock Exchange was trading up 7.67 per cent at Rs 1318.60 as compared to its previous close of Rs 1224.65.
