The country's second-largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto today said it will hike production of its Discover range of bikes to 20 lakh units annually from next month to cater to increased demand.
"For taking its star brand (Discover) to newer heights, the company is now in the process of enhancing its production capacity to 2 million units annually by next month," Bajaj Auto said in a statement.
The company is currently producing about 15.6 lakh units of Discover bikes annually.
Bajaj Auto said it sold 1,27,397 units of the brand in August this year, thereby "inching closer to the current number one -– Splendor".
The company had re-entered the volume-driven 100cc segment in July last year with the Discover brand. Currently it is registering an average sales of about 85,000 units per month.
Besides, the Discover 150cc, which was launched in May 2010, is clocking over 35,000 units mark per month.
"With the capacity expansion in place, we will see a further ramp-up in volumes and market share. All this is amidst aggressive launches from the competition," Bajaj Auto President (Motorcycles) S Sridhar said.
