The Rs 100 crore eye care major, Bausch & Lomb Eyecare India Pvt Ltd has set its sights on doubling the turnover every three year. |
At present, Bausch & Lomb is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based parent. The company is a leader in contact lens, technology for cataract surgeries and Lasik surgery. |
The company manufactures contact lens in its Bhiwadi plant in Rajasthan and imports colour lenses from the Brazil facility of its parent. |
J P Singh, managing director, Bausch & Lomb India said: "The revenue has been growing by 20 per cent annually. Our sales stood about Rs 100 crore in last fiscal. |
"Of the total revenue about 50 per cent has been generated from the lens business. In India, the perception for the eye lenses has changed tremendously. At the same time, the lenses have become stylish with variants in look and colours. The new lenses are also easy to maintain," said Singh. At present, the company holds over 70 per cent market share of lenses, Singh added. |
According to Singh, the average age of contact lens user has changed from the earlier age of 25. People used to look at lens differently and used to think it as a short-term solution while searching for bride or groom. Today even teenagers wear contact lenses. |
Recently, Bausch & Lomb had doubled the capacity of ReNu MultiPlus brand solution used for maintenance of lenses. Singh denied any plan of capacity expansion for contact lenses. |
