BBC journalists will stage two one-day strikes on April 3 and 9 to protest against plans that would allegedly result in redundancies and outsourcing of editorial content of the Hindi, Urdu and Nepali services. The decision to go on strike was taken at a meeting of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Monday.

BBC members of the union voted overwhelmingly in support of the strike. The NUJ general secretary, Jeremy Dear, said: “Journalists at the South Asian services have been fighting a heroic struggle against the outsourcing of their jobs. Now they have the weight of thousands of NUJ members at the BBC behind them.”
