Beam Global Spirits & Wine Inc, world's fourth largest premium spirits company, launched 'Teacher's Origin' scotch whisky here on Wednesday. With the latest launch, the company plans to consolidate its Indian portfolio comprising 14 brands of whisky and bourbon.
According to Beam Global India and Indian subcontinent chief executive officer and managing director Harish Moolchandani, the company will be increasing its share in the country's bottled scotch whisky segment from the existing 40 per cent to 45 per cent. The annual market size of premium scotch whisky in India is close to 1 million cases.
He, however, said the growth of the company’s sales would decline to 13-14 per cent this year from 20-25 per cent registered till last year. He attributed the fall in the growth rate to the global slowdown.
Targeted at young professionals in the age group of 30 and above, Teacher's Origin contains 65 per cent malt and comes with a cork cap.
Moolchandani said Beam Global had about 48 per cent share in the scotch whisky market of Andhra Pradesh. The state accounts for a sale of 40,000 cases of Teacher's portfolio a year.
He said Kerala was the only state in the country where the company was not selling its spirits. This was on account of the prevailing high taxation in the southern state.
