West Bengal, on Tuesday, became the forerunner in mega-watt level solar power generation with the commissioning a 2MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic plant at Jamuria, near Asansol. This is the largest plant of its kind in India. The unit has been set-up by the West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Limited (WBGECL), the power from which will be purchased by DPSC Ltd. at Rs 5.00 per unit along with an additional central subsidy of Rs 10 per unit. The Rs 36 crore has been partly funded by the Power Finance Corporation with a debt-equity ratio of 70:30.
